Iced Lemon Coffee: How to Make a True Mazagran at Home

Jun 12, 2025

At Atelier Maison Quatre, every cup tells a story. The story of our new Citron Mazagran is one of sunshine, freshness, and rediscovery — a nod to a refreshing, citrus-infused coffee drink with a long history: the café mazagran.

What is a Mazagran Coffee?

Mazagran is a chilled coffee drink with Franco-Algerian roots, made with diluted espresso, lemon, sugar, and ice.
Unlike modern iced lattes, it contains no milk, making it a light and refreshing summer alternative — bold and bright in flavor.

What you’ll need:

  1. A long espresso or strong brewed coffee

  2. Fresh lemon juice

  3. A touch of simple syrup

  4. Ice cubes

The result?

A tangy, ice-cold coffee that breaks from routine — best enjoyed slowly, in the shade or on a sunny terrace.

A cup made for the moment

To match this sunny ritual, we’re introducing our new Citron Mazagran 🍋
A vibrant yellow inspired by citrus zest — evoking summer tables, clinking glasses, and long coffees shared with friends.

Just like all our mazagrans, it’s:
✔️ Handmade in Portugal, with a hand-applied glaze
✔️ Designed to handle both hot and cold drinks
✔️ As much a design object as a daily companion

Want to try it at home?

Here’s a simple iced lemon coffee recipe (for 1 cup):

Ingredients
• 1 espresso (or 4 cl strong coffee)
• 1 tsp sugar (or cane syrup)
• 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
• Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In your mazagran, add the lemon juice and sugar.

  2. Pour in the hot espresso and stir gently.

  3. Add ice cubes to fill.

  4. Garnish with a lemon slice.

  5. Sip slowly and enjoy.
